Homemade Coffee Syrups

Skip the lines and extra ingredients with names you can’t pronounce. These easy recipes are more delicious and customizable so you can have the perfect morning sip!

What you’ll need:

For the syrup base:

  • 2 cups of water

  • 2 cups of sugar (white or brown, whichever you like best!)

  • Pinch of salt

Flavoring options:

  • Vanilla bean

    • 4-6 vanilla beans, slice pod in half remove seeds and add seed and pod into syrup base

    • 2-3 tablespoons vanilla extract

    • 1 tablespoon vanilla bean paste (optional, but adds a ton of flavor, can add more pods or extract)

  • Brown sugar & cinnamon

    • Use brown sugar in base in same ratio

    • 2-3 teaspoons cinnamon powder

    • 1 cinnamon stick

  • Other options:

    • Chocolate

    • Hazelnut

    • Nutmeg

    • Pumpkin spice

The process:

Add water to heavy bottomed pot and bring to a boil. Add in sugar of your choosing and pinch of salt, stirring with heat on medium until the syrup goes from cloudy to clear (brown sugar will be dark brown but will still clear up). Add in whichever flavoring you pick, don’t be afraid of experimenting here, syrups are pretty forgiving.

Simmer for ~10 minutes.

Let cool in the pot. Once cooled, you can reuse your old syrup bottles from the big stores, buy glass ones like I used, or just use a plain ‘ol mason jar for storage. Easy, peasy, lemon-squeezy…. You can also make a lemon syrup, whatever makes you happy, I’m not here to judge. Feel free to run warm syrup through cheese cloth for a cleaner looking syrup, or keep it as it is like I do.

Enjoy a couple of pumps in your favorite cup of joe, or tea.

Happy morning to you.
